since i think i was 6ish i always had a weird fascination with chernobyl, like i remember when i first learned about it it was like the most interesting thing my elementary level brain had ever heard about. and as time went on and i lived life more random facts about the disaster or relating to the city just appear. Like the mass of super heated, highly radioactive elements and chemicals under reactor four called “the elephants foot”. and it was so radioactive when it first formed it would kill you in under 5 minutes if you stood next to it, as of now its radioactivity has decreased though.
or like, honest to god, my favorite show river monsters had an episode where jeremy wade went to chernobyl to fish and he had to wear a suit the whole time and his little radon sensor would beep depending on how radioactive the area was. and he was trying to catch the big catfish there. the catfish are crazy, like they get so big there and thats partially because there are no people to fish them, but thats another crazy part of chernobyl, its abandoned except for like 1000 people. i mean that makes sense its not healthy to live there but nature and the animals there are probably the most uninturupted on earth (excluding the deep sea) since no one is hunting them and i dont think you can eat plants there.
